MapsOn (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the MapsOn application across all supported platforms (Android, iOS, Desktop, and Web).

1.1 Location Data

To provide maps, navigation, and tracking features, MapsOn accesses your location information. This may include:

Precise Location: GPS data from your device (with your explicit permission), used to show your position on the map and to record tracks.
Approximate Location: Coarse location derived from network or your IP address.
Background / Foreground Location Tracking: When you start a tracking session, MapsOn uses an Android foreground service to continue recording your location while the app is in the background. A persistent notification is shown whenever tracking is active. Tracking only runs while you have explicitly enabled it.

1.2 Device Information

We may collect information about the device you use to access the app, such as device model, operating system version, and network connection state.

1.3 Usage Data

We may collect information on how the app is accessed and used, including timestamps of access and features interacted with, to help us improve the user experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

To provide and maintain the service: Specifically, to display maps and map tiles, show your current position, record and replay tracks, and provide geocoding and routing.
To improve our service: Analyzing usage patterns to enhance app performance and design.
To manage your preferences: Storing your settings locally on your device (e.g., unit preferences, theme selection, feature toggles).

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1 Local Storage

MapsOn stores your preferences, recorded tracks, and certain cached map data locally on your device using Jetpack DataStore and SQLDelight. This data remains on your device and is not uploaded to our servers unless specifically required for a feature you enable.

3.2 Security

The security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. We may share location coordinates with third-party map, tile, geocoding, and routing providers solely to fetch the map data you request.

5. Third-Party Services

MapsOn uses third-party APIs for map tiles, geocoding, and routing data. These services may have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

You can delete location and track data stored on your device at any time by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app.

Our service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
